Dear Friend,

The Center for Book Arts starts its fourth decade with tremendous change and growth. Your participation is crucial to our continued success. Please help by making a special tax-deductible contribution to the Center's End-of-Year Appeal: Launch the Fourth Decade!

Our 30th Anniversary celebration began with a lecture and workshop by legendary typographer and poet Robert Bringhurst. We are publishing his book, New World Suite Number Three, in a Hedi Kyle binding--a letterpress edition that sets a higher standard for integrating content, design and production in book art.

30 Years of Innovation: A Survey of Exhibition History at the Center for Book Arts, 1974-2004 presented works that changed the way people see and make books. This landmark exhibition was organized by Yale University Arts of the Book Curator Jae Jennifer Rossman, who has now joined our Board of Directors. Celebrating Artist Members featured 58 broadsides, now available in a limited edition portfolio. We presented two major international exhibitions this year--Views from Venice and New York/Paris Dialogue--furthering our global presence.

There are new classes in the schedule and we offer more advanced courses than ever before, as well as a revamped curriculum for introductory Bookbinding and Letterpress. We introduced The Stein Family Scholarship Fund for Advanced Studies in the Book Arts to support individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to our field. Our Workspace Grant for New York Emerging Artists is going strong, with increased funding from the New York State Council on the Arts. There are 111 applicants for four coveted 2006 residencies.

Our literary programs continue to flourish. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Poetry Chapbook Competition, which was commemorated by a special reading at the Association of Writers Programs (AWP) conference in Vancouver, Canada. Our Broadside Reading Series completed its 5th season this year.

The CBA website is now equipped with online class registrations, a growing exhibition database, and a publications store. Our online Exhibitions Archive is serving over 100,000 page views each month. We have added a quarterly Members' Newsletter to our Publications Program.

Your support is VITAL to the Center. Please help us continue these exciting and innovative programs.

Our goal this year is $75,000 to cover increased maintenance costs; necessary repairs on the facility; new studio and classroom equipment, and to retain our dedicated staff. Contributions are separate from membership dues. Please give as much as you can - this time of year is our period of greatest need! Help start our Fourth Decade with no deficit.

Show your support of the positive direction the Center is moving by making a contribution to the End-of-Year Appeal: Launch the Fourth Decade!
