It is not perhaps surprising that the work of Vital Signs exhibits a slightly macabre aspect--an affinity with the dark and strange--for Elena Laza, co-proprietor with Christopher Erb, is a native of Transylvania. Since starting in 1985, they have produced three editions. Dead Birds, a collaboration between twenty four artists and poet Christopher Erb, was the first project of the press and took three years to complete.
