A discussion of Letterpress and Leaves of Grass. With Barbara Henry, artist, printer, and typographer. She was, for over 20 years, Curator of Bowne & Co., Stationers and her work is in many libraries and special collections. One of Barbara's particular fields of interest is Nineteenth Century type design. Join us for an exploration of nineteenth century printing, type history and contemporary applications.
This is the first in a series of three talks on the history, practice, and future of type design.

Explore using paper as a printing medium to create small variable editions for mixed media drawings or artist book projects with several innovative techniques. Participants will also learn image transfer techniques using mulberry paper (kozo) as "carbon paper" for transferring images using ink, gesso, and methyl cellulose/acrylic paint that results in two or three versions of one image from one "paper press run".
