Reductive Woodcut
Learn how to achieve multiple colors in a woodblock image with perfect registration through reductive printing. This workshop will be an introduction to the technique of reduction woodblock printing on a Vandercook Press. Students will learn about the tools, materials, carving sequence and printing methods associated with the reductive process. All students will have the opportunity to carve and print a personalized component of a collaborative poster.

Katie Baldwin
October 24 - 25 , Saturday and Sunday, 10am - 4pm

Katie Baldwin is a skilled bookbinder and printmaker. In 2004 she represented the Mid-Atlantic States at the Nasgasawa Art Park Pilot Project. During this residency she learned traditional techniques of Japanese printmaking and papermaking from master carvers, printers and papermakers. Currently she is completing a portfolio of 10 woodblock prints through an Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts. In 2008 she will be an artist in residence at The Women’s Studio Workshop, where she will edition her artist book: Treasure. She received her Masters of Fine Arts in printmaking and book arts from the University of the Arts in 2004, where she received the The Elizabeth C. Robert’s Prize for Graduate Study and the Mr. Harry Eaby/Piccari Press Scholarship. Her work is included in the Library Special Collections at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia; Works on Paper Special Collections at The Free Library of Philadelphia; and in The Seattle Arts Commission Small Works Permanent Collections in Seattle, WA.
