classes in the printshop
Letterpress I: Contemporary Letterpress PrintingIn this course students will be introduced to the contemporary practice of letterpress printing. Incorporating press work on the cylinder press, we will cover the essentials of fine letterpress printing. Students in this session will begin with hand typesetting, then move to creating and working with polymer plates, which allow students to use their digitally rendered designs. Some computer knowledge is helpful but not necessary. This course requires the production of digital files.
Letterpress I is a prerequisite for renting in the printshop, and is a required course for our certificate program.
Deadline to register: One week before class starts.
Class tuition includes a materials fee that goes towards paper, solvent, rags, and maintaining the equipment.
