classes in the bindery
Structures for an ExhibitionStudents will learn three structures for artist books that unfold and hang for display in gallery environments. Rory's "Twisted hanging book" corkscrews from the ceiling to the floor. The arched hanging book curves from the ceiling to the wall for display. The flat hanging book unfolds and hangs on the wall as a 2D image. Each collapses neatly into a pile, fitting into an envelope or box for storage; however, the magical part is that each style of hanging books allows gallery viewers to read the entire book without having to touch or turn pages. If time allows we will explore variations on each structure. Beginning students will learn bookbinding materials, tools and techniques but the class is designed for those at all levels of experience.
Deadline to register: One week before the class starts.
