Panorama Concertina
The panorama concertina, designed by Hedi Kyle, is an accordion book with a series of floating panels. The center of each panel is cut and folded to allow for movement. Using a hevy paper, Rives BFK, we will start by creating a relief printed surface with colored paste for our pages. Artwork for the panels can be made in class using mylar stencils or rubber stamps, or can be photos, drawings or prints that you bring with you. A quick writing exercise will help generate ideas. Your book will have four front panels and four back panels-each 3 1/2" by 5", perfect for a short narrative. We will make cloth covered boards with an inlaid design motif for our covers to finish our books.Alice Austin July 17 , Saturday, 10am - 4pm Alice Austin As a book conservator for an independent research library, Alice combines her knowledge of bookbinding with her interest in unusual book forms. She creates artist books that often function without words, using a sculptural approach to surprise and delight the viewer. Her artist books are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and MOMA, among others.
