Keith Cummings is associate professor of graphic design at Penn State University. Keith received his BFA in Communication Design from Otis/Parsons, and his Master’s Degree in Visual Communication and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon graduating, Keith’s first teaching position was at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He joined the faculty at Penn State in 1997. Keith has been creating hand-made books since his introduction to the craft in the print shop at Otis. As a graphic designer, Keith’s books focus on the juxtaposition and integration of imagery and typography, and incorporate various graphic processes in their production. Book arts are an integral part of Keith’s professional career, both as creative research and in his teaching, where elements of book design are incorporated both into his studio classes and into his history coursework on graphic design.
