Ellen WallensteinNew York, NY
B.A. in Art History, SUNY Stony Brook, M.F.A. Photog, Pratt Institute
I began making books in 1984 in a workshop with the inspirational Keith A. Smith. As a photographer I was looking for a way to expand my story telling. Since then I've constructed many one-of a kind books of my photographs and collages. I've also made a few small editions. A large edition,"A Game of Chess" was published and distributed by the Womens Studio Workshop. The Book form is a means to tell a narrative or implied story. I enjoy the editing process, collaging images and the craft of binding. I teach Book Arts to photography students at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts, both in NYC.
