Ellen Wallenstein
New York, NYB.A. in Art History, SUNY Stony Brook, M.F.A. Photog, Pratt Institute www.ellenwallenstein.com
I began making books in 1984 in a workshop with the inspirational Keith A. Smith. As a photographer I was looking for a way to expand my story telling. Since then I've constructed many one-of a kind books of my photographs and collages. I've also made a few small editions. A large edition,"A Game of Chess" was published and distributed by the Womens Studio Workshop. The Book form is a means to tell a narrative or implied story. I enjoy the editing process, collaging images and the craft of binding. I teach Book Arts to photography students at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts, both in NYC. Ellen Wallenstein's work appeared in the following exhibition(s) organized by The Center for Book Arts Celebrating Artist Members: 30th Anniversary Members Exhibition |
