Lucille Nurske
Brooklyn, NY

I live and work in Brooklyn New York. I am happiest when I am making pictures in response to what I have experienced and seen in the world. Art reflects life for me. The character is in the gesture. I like working flat, but the challenge is to show some depth. Initially I studied Chinese calligraphy. I still love the stark simplicity of black on white. A linocut for me is about the process. I do not map out the whole composition ahead of time. I let it develop. At times it moves in an unexpected direction. Pursuing multiple proofs allows me to refine the composition until I capture exactly what I want. My final editions are small. My work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in New York City as well as in juried shows throughout the United States. Please visit my website
