My obsession with making books comes from my love of books and reading: the feel of a book in my hand, turning a page and the anticipation of what comes next, and the solace and escape a good book can provide. My artist?s books, collages, and sculpture start with discarded books or book parts: I dissect and recombine them using embroidery, wax, metalwork, and binding techniques.
I?ve been making books and art related to books for almost twenty years, and have exhibited throughout the United States. In 2005 I received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. My books are in the collections of the Boston Public Library, Bowdoin College Library, Maine Women Writers Collection, Lafayette College, Portland Museum of Art, RISD Library, and the Library of Congress, among others.
