Writing an artist statement is not my strongest point. It is difficult to say how I became so involved with book making. I came to books through painting, in an effort to make a painting that would "read" like a book only to reveal itself as a painting at the end. I found that, because of the book form, there was an immediate contact with the observer. Books do not intimidate, they are meant to be touched, carried. There is an intimacy with a book that you do not have with a painting. I have become more involved with making books, printmaking, papers, bindings...the list goes on. It is quite a journey.
